August Burns Red: Constellations

I went to a Christian store one day on vacation in South Carolina and I didn't know what to get, this was long ago when I didn't know many christian bands so I just started listening to a few Cd's and fell in love with this album. It's funny how there are Christian stores near me and I always seem to get Christian Cd's when I'm in South Carolina (that's where i got my first Flyleaf CD too).I listened to the CD non-stop in the car on the way home and I just loved it. I thought it was cool that they wrote the song Indonesia for their friend who pasted away its really cool when bands dedicate songs to people because it gives it so much more meaning. The song I think is my favorite is The Escape Artist because it makes sense on how people judge people "based on face but its all in the heart" and the words "open your closed mind and close your open mouth" are words that people need to hear because of how ignorant people can be about things is annoying. The Song White Washed has a cool sound in the beginning and its cool how it builds up and if you listen closely it continues throughout the whole song and it works together and it makes a good song. ABR's sound is really cool, though I like post-hardcore a lot this band still has the talent I look for to like a band and their music is perfect for my mood sometimes because they may be the only really hardcore band I listen to, all the other bands have clear vocal too. It's actually nice to wake up to ABR as my alarm clock music because the energy in it just wakes me up. some people would get a headache waking up to them but its perfect for me.

The Devil Wears Prada

This band is extremely talented. They do so much with their sound it is intense. When they mix up sounds and make every song sound so different it is really good. Something that I recognize happens with some screamo bands is that the songs carry such a similar sound that you cant tell them apart and that's not good because its just like having one thought and changing it up a little each time and that doesn't show much talent. The Devil Wears Prada have the right talent that you need to hear in a band because even if you are not artistic and don't know how to appreciate art you can still listen to The Devil Wears Prada and know they sound amazing. They do a lot with their music that really sets them apart from all the other screamo bands. Not only do they sound great but their lyrics are have a positive message that some people don't expect to hear from what they sound like. People think hard music has to be death metal but what they don't know is times have changed and screamo bands are now screaming for God. TDWP is a good example of a metal christian band that has made it very far.

Austin Carlile

I like this guy he is cool. He used to be in Attack! Attack! when they were good, and he was the reason they were. I heard that Attack Attack let them go because of his lyrics but I still am unsure of the real reason but anyway he is in a new band called Of Mice and Men and I really like them. Though I don't have their album I know I like them already just because Austin Carlile is in it. Well that's kind of a lie I know I like them because I heard one song but Austin Carlile being in the band is also a good reason. Well anyway I just thought he was worthy of a blog post and I'll probably write more once I get one of their albums and tell you what I think.

Attack! Attack! Someday Came Suddenly

So Attack! Attack! has now changed since they let go of their former screamer Austin Carlile who's lyrics were religious. I have never listened to Attack! Attack!'s new stuff because I don't believe it will be anything like before, they are like a whole new band now and it sucks because I really liked them. The album Someday Came Suddenly to me seems like a story. The songs on the album trail together like they are meant to be in that order for a reason. The songs together bring out a story about realizing Christ and accepting Him. I believe the reason the band got rid of Austin is because they didn't believe in his lyrics and that's sadening. I also have never seen this album in christian stores so maybe the band didn't want it to be so obvious because they didn't want to lose fans, but honestly they have lost a fan, i still love this album but i will never listen to anything else they have to offer. I'm pretty sure anyone who first listens to this album will not realize what it's about until they really listen to the words. It's so easy to like their sound because they have that new sound that is popular with thecno screamo so it can attract people who love post-hardcore music. I fell in love with Attack! Attack! after the first song I heard just because of the sound, but when I listened to the words i loved it even more. The first song i heard by them was Stick Stickly, I bought an AP CD that was called Summer of Rock 2009 and it had a bunch of songs and that was one of them. Something cool about their song Stick Stickly is they talk directly about Jesus but some people wont even recognize it because some people don't care enough about lyric. I know when i first heard the song i just liked the sound and the scream so I know that's why most people would like them. It's sad to know that people who are a fan of this album and don't know the meaning will still like them now and never come to know what it meant because they have changed. I think a christian band should be proud to be a christian band because whats the point in sing about the Lord if you're to scared to admit it. Attack! Attack! has never been classified at a christian band but i will still share with you that they are because weather they like it or not this album was about Christ and you should all know that.

Relient K

Relient K is a Christian band, sadly some people didn't know that. Relient K has the best lyrics i have ever seen. they are so original and still manage to make it christiany and funny and its so unique. There is no other band like Relient K, though there are many bands in the same genre no one can pull off what Relient K can. Their music is so funny without all the junk our society puts in music today. They have a smart way of being funny and putting Jesus in their music, and whoever didn't know they were christian must have only listened to one song or just completely don't listen to lyric. One of their funniest songs are Crayons Can Melt On Us For All I Care. It's funny how the only words "I just wasted 10 seconds of your life". One of the most meaningful songs by Relient K is Who I Am Hates Who I've Been because it really relates to my life. The first couple times i listened to the song i was in tears because of how much i felt like it was God's way of speaking to me. Another really powerful song is For Moments I Feel Faint because it is one of the songs that can really give someone hope and makes anyone just feel good. In the song the main words are "never under estimate my Jesus, when the world around you crumbles He will be strong". Relient K also has one song that i love called I got In A Fight With A Stenographer because they put some thecno in it, but only a little but it's still good. They have also mixed in some reggae in one song called Five Iron Frenzy (Sak Version) and it sounds pretty cool. One thing that upsets me about Relient K is that they are so good and sometimes their songs are too short and i want more. In the song Maybe It's Maybeline it says "we're all sinners we're all unclean maybe we're born with it or maybe it's maybeline" and its just so cool how they can make it funny and religious. Its sad that some people don't recognize that that is more talented writing than "tick toc on the clock and the party don't stop" i mean come on we should be giving credit to people who can actually write! what has our society come down to?!?! Lady Ga Ga and Ke$ha have way less talent than Relient K and they are more famous!! this world needs to learn what good music really is and i will do whatever it takes to prove what good music really is so people aren't stuck listening to Justin Bieber for the rest of their life! So anyway Relient K has 500x more talent than more famous people. omg go to this page about relient k its funny http://punkrocker196.tripod.com/id20.html

Paramore concert

i went to my 4th Paramore concert last week part of their Honda Civic tour with Tegan & Sara and it was the best! i was in the front row and Hayley got really close to me and i freaked out! she came on a platform close to me and i pointed to her and she pointed back but I don't know if she was really pointing at me because anyone would try to think it was them but i didn't see anyone else around me point at her so it could have been for me. it's my dream to meet them i still pray for that day. the show had so much energy like they always do and Hayley is so funny. near the end Hayley sang happy birthday to a girl named Jen and then she was like "if there is anyone else with a birthday your name is now Jen". she was so funny guards were laughing. i remember when she was introducing the band she was like just saying funny things and doing things slowly and this guard that was right in front of me just thought she was hilarious. i loved that in the end of one of the songs there was fire in the back and it was so cool! it was so exciting when at the end of misery business there was a ton of confetti and it was the perfect way to end the show. the show had more energy and things going on that any other paramore show Ive been to

Fireflight: The Healing of Harms

So i have been falling more in love with Fireflight lately because of how i feel when i listen to their music its like I'm high and its amazing! i have kind of an order in my head of favorite bands and they have made it to #2 right under Flyleaf. So i bought their older CD yesterday and i love it so much like the first song Serenity just got me, the girl vocals with the male scream is just beautiful together. I'm upset that they don't have screaming anymore but i still love them. this CD so far is so meaningful like I don't know how else to explain it because its so Godly. I can feel that God is the meaning and the power behind every song. Like the song Star of The Show explains that God is the really part of every song. The song Liar is my favorite with the screaming and speaking it has such an empowering sound. The lyrics of Something New and the sound is powerful it would probably be my favorite, its just a story of a person lost in their life looking for something more because of all of their emotional pain and God is the something more that they will find. I Thing the name of this album fit with what they do with their music, i think someone who has never been religious before who listens to fireflight will become Christians because these songs relate to people so well that they will just take it in because its hard to deny what these lyrics say. The story in the song More Than a Love Song is a good example of how fireflight puts real people in their lyrics because it will really speak to the people who are in the same situation as those people. This album is one of the best Ive ever herd because of sound and lyrics every aspect shows pure talent.

Haste The Day: Attack Of The Wolf King

so I i just bought this new cd and i just started listening to it for the first time right now and its pretty good so far. I haven't listened to them much before but i knew the were under the same label as August Burns Red and Underoath so i thought they would be good. They have a sound like most screamo bands but have clear vocal too. some of the sound to it is kind of alternative sounding but it works. The scream is similar to August Burns Red but not as clear. The song Travesty is the first song i listened to and felt the feeling, you know that good feeling when you know you like a band and it brings you a slight smile ya well i felt that. the song has an interesting balance between clear vocal and scream and it just spoke to me. I felt a little bored by the first few songs because it seemed to sound the same. I love the sound of screamo but i love it when songs can be mixed up with new sounds because that shows true talent. Im not trying to say i dont like this band because i do but i just feel ive heard better. The song White as snow is really good i like the clear vocal with this song there is no screaming in this one but the music is all hard and it is interesting because normally when a screamo band decides to have a song with clear vocal they would make it slower but they used the metal sound and put the soft vocal to it and it wasn't bad . The song Walk With a Crooked Spine reminds me a lot of Oh, Sleeper's sound it has the same guitar sound as the song World Without the Sun. Ok now here is the song that shows more talent in mixing up sounds, the song My Name is Darkness starts with a cool sound kind of techno-like but it also kind of reminds me of the song White Washed by August Burns Red. I feel like this band started by being inspired by other bands and take their sounds and attempt to make them their own.  What really upsets me is that when i bought this cd it said it was on sale but when they rang it up it was more then i thought then i just bought it and i didnt realize what happened till i got home later and i was already to far from the store, and i thought it was on sale because God knew it would be good for me but it was just worse so i hope God has something else in store to make up for it.

We Came As Romans: To Plant a Seed

This album is filled with music that I cant get sick of. The entire album is just love pure love. The begining of the album starts with the perfect song To Plant a Seed the sound is attention grabing. The song has the perfect mix of clear vocals and screaming, the vocalsist has a very good male voice and it fits perfectly with thier sound (the first time i heard them i couldnt breathe because it was so good).

The song intentions (that i am listening to at the moment) they mix in some sounds that make the song so different by putting in orcestra type thing and it give it such a unique twist.

My favorite song by them is Roads That Dont End and Views That never cease because the begining starts with screaming and its good because this screamer has a clear scream. The song has a moderate amount of tehcno in it that makes it sound a lot more unique. the songd alternates from clear vocal to screaming and it works together. The end fades off with the good clear vocal saying "this is how we love" and it is the best way to end a song beautifully.

Kadawatha!!

So I went to a Paramore concert the other day and the first few bands playing I never heard of before and I didnt really expect to like them but this band Katawatha is so good! They had such a good energy on stage it was intense they were all in sync with eachother and it just looked really cool. Thier muisc was really good too. They are like pop electronic sound. The song Agape will make you fall in love right away. The vocals is so good. The guy sings high sometimes and its so unexpected and it sounds awesome. They mix up sounds and it gives it a cool electronic sound, they really have talent. This guy who sings has an amazing voice. I hate that half the people who are famous today wouldn't make it past the second round of american idol but i believe this guy could. They are pretty unpopular yet so I wasn't able to get them on my playlist but here is a link so listen to thier song Agape http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyYAyf41tag

Oh, Sleeper Son Of The Morning

This band is awesome. They are a christian screamo band like Underoath and they are signed under the same label. Solid State is a label that has not a lot of bands but they are all christian metal and I am a fan of pretty much every band under that label. So I never heard of Oh, Sleeper till like 4 months ago when I discovered them at a christian store when I was trying to decide what August Burns Red CD to get but then I ended up getting Oh, Sleeper's album Son Of The Morning and I fell in love. The Song Reveries Of Flight has a cool sound to it, its not all hardcore right away  it starts with clear vocals it like builds and it sounds intense and then there is screaming. The words to it are about someone not realizing that God is trying to love them and explaining that God is always there waiting for you to notice. Another song from this album I really like is World Without The Sun because it has a different hardcoreness to it like its hardcore but it doesn't have like the sound that you always hear in hardcore when the guitar is like strumming on the same note over and over as the drums are like super fast, well the drums are fast in the song but the guitar goes all over the place and it sounds cool with the screaming, it just works.

Fireflight

I like fireflight because I just love the sound of a girl singer with rock. The words and everything like are just so good, their lyrics are so understandable and some songs I feel like were written about my life. Their songs are like worship but I feel like the words have more to it like theres a story to every song. Not only are the lyrics meaningful but the sound to it just like grabs a new crowd like a christian may not always like church music but to give it rock sound will make them want to listen to christian music, that's just like all christian rock too. Like Flyleaf they show how girls sound so good and work in Christian Rock, I think the next big thing is gonna be an all girl Christian screamo band because its normally all guys.

Fireflight understands that some people get annoyed with the average contemporary christian music so they make their songs reltable to what teenagers and such actually go through and then bring God into it. The song What Ive Overcome shows that people go through things and they find God at hopeless times and they move forward with the love of God. This song is my favorite from the album For Those Who Wait because it is like me and what I have overcome.

Their music has done a lot for me, the song Forever was the first song I felt high off Christ from. The song starts with a nice acoustic sound that just draws you in and the words explain being lonely and lost. Then talks about hearing Gods voice that makes them feel hope knowing that God will take hold of their heart.

Underoath

Underoath is a metal christian band that I believe started christian metal, from starting in the late 90's this band may be the oldest in Christian screamo. They have changed their line up many times but still have fans that will always follow them. Their music has shaped where christian screamo is today and they seem to always please their fans with their changing sounds. from the album The Changing Of Times released in 2002 to their newest album Lost In The Sound Of Separation released in 2008 their sound has changed because of changing vocalists. The change of sound from their first album to their newest is very noticeable because the newer music has a vocalist with a much clearer scream and most songs have clear vocals. Underoath has changed their line-up a lot of times but the drummer Aaron Gillespie has stuck with the band the longest and just recently left the band. Now the band has none of the original people but still carry the same name, sound, and faith.

I am in love with Flyleaf

So I believe Flyleaf is a band because God Loves me, well and because God loves them, and he loves all the ones who have been toched by thier music such as I (well he really loves everyone). I have been a fan of Flyleaf since 2005 when my sister bought thier first album titled Flyleaf. My sister and I would listen to the CD non stop and became huge fans really quick. Lacey Mosley (vocals) has such a unique voice that you either fall in love with or just get annoyed with but for me I just fell in love. The Song Cassie was my favorite song right away when i listened to the words it was so powerful to know that Christians will never deny thier belifes even in the toughest situations. The song made me realize how strong a Christian can be and made me realize i should never hide the fact that I belive in God. The song Red Sam has also become one of my favorite songs by Flyleaf because it is a pure worship song. The song got its name from guitsrist Sameer and drummer Jared who wrote the song together. Lyrics from the song say "my hands are open and you are feeling them, hands are in the air and i worship you, because you are the truth saving my life"

About 6 months after my sister and I fell in love with Flyleaf we were able to go to a concert of thiers. We were super excited to see them so we waited 7 hours in the front row for them. That night I felt God with me and I always said that was the best day of my life. Flyleaf has an amazing presence and Lacey is so faithful to God that she always shares her beliefs at concerts. Lacey has been an inspiration to me for so long she is like my favorite person ever. She has gone through a past and her story means a lot to me because of where she was and how she was saved by Gods love and shares her faith with the world through her music.
This picture was taken by my sister at our first Flyleaf concert

in 2009 Flyleaf came out with thier newest album Memento Mori. Memento Mori has heart filled songs that some go out to certian people and some talk about expirences. The song This Close is a song that really speaks to me because i feel like it was written about my life. lyrics say "something you'll never find is a vision of light with a voice of the dead". to me this is explianing how sometimes we do things we belive God wants for us to do but later realize we were wrong.

On July 3rd 2010 i had the best day of my life. This day was made best because of Flyleaf. I Met Flyleaf for the first and only time so far on this day and words can't describe the feeling i had while meeting them, i cried i waved and couldnt breathe. Lacey asked me if i was ok and hugged me (she didnt even hug my sister). other than Lacey, Sameer was the only one who made me feel loved because her shook my hand. i was able to teel Lacey she was my favorite persong ever, but i still pray for the day that i will get to tell her how much she means to me.

why i am doing this

Today i have decided to take my interests in bands and music to write reviews on bands and albums. I like to write and i have opinions and things to share about my favorite bands and to be able to use my reviews to trace where post hardcore and alternative music will be evolving into in the future. I don't care if i have one view or one thousand views i just want to write about my music because well, i want to. :)
